Click for more information on the 2021 International Student Byron Conference, “Byron, Philhellenism, and the Greek Revolution of 1821,” to be held May 26-31, 2021.
Byron died at the age of the 36 in Messolonghi, in western Greece, where he had gone to aid the Greeks in resisting the Turkish occupation. His death in the Greek revolutionary cause made him a hero in that country. Messolonghi is now the home to the International Research Center for Lord Byron and Philhellenism, located in a modern recreation of Lord Byron’s House.
The Messolonghi Byron Society of Greece hosts conferences on Byron for students and early-career scholars. This year’s conference is on “Byron, Philhellenism, and the Greek Revolution of 1821”; proposals were due on January 10, 2021. Specific information can be found on the Messolonghi Byron Society home page under “Conferences.” The BSA strongly supports the attendance of members and their students at the Messolonghi conferences, and gives travel grants to students for that purpose. Please contact us with any questions about how to get involved.
